LoRa IoT Platform for Smart City Technology and Applications Development

Print

Overview

The Smart City development integrates smart devices, citizens and city’s services together to achieve sustainability, efficiency, safety, healthcare, mobility and wealth. The basic success factor depends on the invention and adoption of Internet-of-Things (IoT). This project aims at analyzing and developing LoRa network for Smart City development. LoRa, also refers to Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN), is a long-range communication technology and its low power consumption design renders devices’ batteries to survive 10 years. Therefore, LoRa is an appropriate wireless communication protocol for building Smart City network (SCN). In the project, the LoRa link budget will be analyzed and designed where the link budget can reveal the coverage of LoRa network. Also, the LoRa-based Cloud prototype for IoT will be analyzed and designed to provide a platform for the Smart City applications. To increase the applicability between LoRa network and existing wireless local area network (WLAN), the gateway between LoRa and Wifi/LTE/5G will be developed. Besides, ICT infrastructures for three (3) most important Smart City applications, interference-mitigated LoRa-based seamless localization, real-time performance in LoRa network, and sub-metering will be implemented with the LoRa-based Cloud prototype.
